The fan oven element is responsible for heating the microwave oven cavity in order to cook the food.

Once the element reaches the desired temperature then the electricity flow switches on and off to maintain the temperature.

Circular elements fail when the internal element filament burns out, this can cause the element to short circuit. There may be visible signs the element has blown such as a split, bulge, or blow hole on the element. Other signs of a failed element include; the microwave not heating up, the oven blowing out cold air or bright spots during use.

There are a number of factors that can cause an fan element to blow. Damage due to the expansion and contraction of the element coils caused by the element constantly heating up and cooling down is a very common cause. While other causes of element failure can include overheating as a result of a failed thermostat.
