Universal Commutator Stick

This commutator stick is used in cleaning brush motor commutators. The stick is perfect for refreshing the surface of the motor commutator, before the carbon brushes are replaced.

This universal commutator stick cleans the commutator segments without doing any harm to them, and is suitable for all carbon brushes.

Service engineers should use these when fitting new brushes. They have cleaning properties and also the dust deposits from the stones are beneficial to the run of the brush. If the commutator is too smooth, which is mainly given on used armatures where the brushes are to replaced but also bad turning operation on new armatures, then the coefficient of friction of the carbon brush increases.

Used armatures have built up a bad patina film on the commutator because of sparking at the end of brush lifetime. A finishing with a pumice stone results in a rougher and cleaner commutator surface which give following advantages:

- Reduced friction: Less sparking because better run behaviour of the brush

- Build-up of higher amount of contact points: Reduce the current density in each contact points
